KonterKunst: DIY

What came first in your life: photography or skateboarding?
I got interested in photography directly trough skate magazines, so before I was ever a Photographer I was a Skater. Really early on as a teenager, I realized that photography is something that I was really passionate about, as well as skateboarding.

You travelled all over the world for this project. Did you have spare time to try these skate parks yourself?
Yes absolutely. Often it inspired trust between the local people and me and after the whole day skating I could shoot the areas in the evening being nearly invisible.

How did you find these hidden places?
Mostly I found them by online research and through word-of-mouth. And then I just drove out and searched for them by myself.

Do you prefer analog or digital photography for your work?
I produced the whole DIY series analog. I really like it to take my time for every subject. In commercial photography everything has to be done digitally and fast, but the silent moments in my project are caught much better with analog techniques; I enjoy being surprised by the outcome.

What was your best moment on the Trip?
Actually I got married shortly before the project so my wife accompanied me on the journey. It was quite an abnormal Honeymoon and my wife really gave me moral support. I really appreciate this.
